Camping Accessories

Emily and Amy at the campfire
Two words: Flashlight tag

On the top of your camping accessories list should be a flashlight.  You can’t go camping and not want to use a flashlight at night.  As a child walking a path in the woods at night, using a flashlight is the coolest thing.  Making shadow shapes on the sides of the tent is also a pretty cool thing to do.

When you set up camp, think about what you will need as part of your camping accessories.  As you drive the tent stake down into the ground to set up your tent with a rock you just found, you might want to wish you had brought a hammer.  It would have made things a little easier.  A basic tool box is something to consider as well as part of your camping accessories... a tent repair kit, a sewing kit, bicycle repair kit, etc, you get the idea.

Rope, a utility knife, compass, waterproof matches, etc. should all be key items on your camping accessories list.  Besides a flashlight, which we talked about earlier, lanterns are a great option to light up your campsite.  Whistles are good to have on your camping accessories list too, in case you get lost or separated from your group.  Walkie-talkies or two-way radios are fun to use and can keep everyone connected.

Some of the comforts of home can be brought to your campsite with little hassle.  On your camping accessories list could be a nice folding chair with a cup holder.  (What would we do without those cup holders??)  Sitting by the fire, relaxing in your comfy chair, drinking your favorite beverage, toasting marshmallows for s’mores….. It doesn’t get any better than this.

Speaking of basic camping accessories, what about toilet paper? Hand sanitizer? Bottled water?  What about binoculars?  Other items you should pack as part of your camping accessories should be insect repellent, bags for trash, laundry bags, pillows, etc.

Since camping will present itself with some unique experiences, a great item on your camping accessories list should be a camera.  There are so many camera choices out there, so pick one that will be a safe choice for your camping trip.  If you will be participating in a lot of water activities, make sure that your camera is somewhat “waterproof”.  If your children will be taking a lot of the photos, make sure it is somewhat “childproof”.   Whatever the experience, catching it on camera will definitely help to make it last longer.  (No matter how hard you might want to forget it!)

We could go on and on with all kinds of items that you could include as part of your own camping accessories.  Just keep in mind the things you use in your every day routine.  Make a list of what you will need to pack as you use it and that will help you create your own camping accessories list.
