     Sleeping Bags

KL Sport Inc.

When camping outdoors, at the end of the day, there’s nothing more comfortable than a warm, cozy sleeping bag.  Sleeping bags have come a long way since I was a young camper.  They are warmer, more water resistant, practical, lightweight, etc.  Depending on what type of camping you will do and when will help you in deciding the right sleeping bag for you.

Some questions to ask yourself when purchasing a sleeping bag could include:  Are you going to stay put at one site or are you going to be moving around a lot?  Will you be going from one site to another?  Are your young children going to want to climb in the sleeping bag with you? Are you a light sleeper or do you move around a lot when you sleep?  Will it be a family trip or a more rugged adventurous one?

Sleeping bags come in different weights.  If you are going to be moving from site to site, you should think about a sleeping bag that doesn’t weigh much.  There are sleeping bags that weigh as little as 1 pound and will still be comfortable for temperatures that drop to 40 degrees F.  A medium weight sleeping bag which is also less expensive should be fine for family summer camping trips.  If you do travel, you will most likely be using your motor vehicle as transportation and not your feet.  How you clean your sleeping bag might be a factor in what type you want to buy.  Most sleeping bags can be washed and dried in a machine or if necessary, line dried.  Some, however, may require dry cleaning if they are filled with a polyester filling.  Your sleeping bag should come with instructions on the proper way to clean and maintain it.

If you want a little more comfort while you sleep, you could consider an air mattress.  (I know, I know, it’s not REAL camping, but sometimes, the ground just doesn’t cut it.)  These can be filled using a hand pump, or even an automatic pump that can be used off your car’s lighter.  You can purchase individual
air mattresses or double or king size.  You might want one that fills the whole sleeping area of your tent or everyone might just want their own.  Whatever size you decide, it can make sleeping on the ground in a sleeping bag
just that much better.
