Camping Tents

A camping tent is a great investment for campers.  It will become your home away from home.  The right camping tent will protect you from the elements: rain, wind, snow (if you camp in the winter), etc.  I remember camping on Martha’s Vineyard Island years ago and was sitting in the camping tent with some friends.  It was a nice day but we kept hearing something dropping on the camping tent, like rain drops.  We couldn’t figure out what it was… but it was definitely a steady drop, drop, drop.

As I said earlier, a camping tent will protect you from the elem ents.  After some creative, thought provoking discussion, this element we figured out was gypsy moth droppings.
D I S G U S T I N G.  I immediately made a mental note to always wear a hat or hood whenever I was outside.

Another camping tent experience I had was during a rain storm.  I was told not to touch the sides inside the tent as it could cause leaking during a rain storm.  I’m not sure if that’s exactly what happened, but around 5:00 in the morning after a night of non-stop rain, I turned over in my sleeping bag and my arm landed in a pool of water.  I’m talking about    1 – 2 inches all around.  I have no idea why I didn’t feel the water through my sleeping bag except to say I must have had a great one.

There are a lot of different camping tents available to us campers.  All you need to do is to have an idea of what kind of camping you want to do and when you want to do it.  To get started, some families start off wit h a basic camping tent that they can use in their backyard.  This can be the first step to help your family members adjust to living in the great outdoors.

How many people will be sleeping in the camping tent? Will I be camping with a pet?  Will my pet need his own camping tent?  (Yes, you CAN buy a pet tent!)  Do I want a camping tent that stands alone?  Or one that I can attach to the back of my truck or SUV/minivan?  Do I want a gazebo or a screen house with my camping tent?  How many “rooms” would I like?  What kind of weather should I expect?  That, of course, will depend on when you do your camping.  January is very different in Florida than it is in Massachusetts.  If you think you might have cold weather, you can always invest in a camping tent heater.  They run off a propane tank and can make your “home away from home” very comfortable and cozy during the colder months.

As you can see, there is a lot to consider when thinking of the right kind of camping tent for you.  Just make a list of what you are looking for and when you are ready to purchase one, you will find a lot of options on this website.
