Summer, Fall, Winter or Spring Camping.
When you camp and how many are camping with you are factors you need to
consider when choosing what type of tent you need.
Types of Tents
1. How many people are going with you?
Tents are sold in sizes by the number of people, a two person tent, three people, four people, or for an entire family! You have to also consider how much gear you will be packing. When a type of tent says it is for two people, this means it is just for the two people with minimum gear. For example, a type of tent that is made for four people, will comfortably fit two adults, or maybe two adults and two small children, but definitely not for 4 adults.
2. Are you all adults or will children be going on this trip?
The height and weight also needs to be considered when choosing which type of tent you would like to get. How tall is everyone? If you have someone who is six feet tall, you may want to consider a type of tent that is at least seven feet in height. It is also recommended that each person have around two and a half feet in width for sleeping, another thing to consider when choosing your type of tent.
3. How much gear will you be taking?
How much space will it take up? The type of tent you choose must be able to contain all the "stuff" you want to bring, unless you will be using your car or other vehicle for storage. Think that a person's belongings could almost take up as much space as a person or at least half that space.
4. Check the weather.
Factors such as wind, rain, the sun, heat and cold will all have an influence on choosing the type of tent you will need. You will need a tent with sturdy poles, stakes and anchor ropes in the more windy conditions. An igloo-shaped tent is a type of tent recommended for these conditions. Rain. Yuck. No one likes it when it rains while camping. But staying dry will help the mood of the camping trip. It's best if your type of tent has a waterproof rain fly made of coated nylon. Make sure it wraps around the entire tent and goes all the way down the sides of the tent as far to the ground as possible. Make sure the floor is also made of a waterproof coated nylon and turns up at the sides. This will help to prevent water from coming in at the seams. The rain fly will also provide shade during the sunny days. (The days we all look forward to when camping)
These are just some factors when considering the type of tent you need for your camping trip. The main thing is that you are comfortable, that there is enough space for all of you and your "stuff" and that you are safe and have a great time.
